وزیر کشور ترکیه نیز اعلام کرد تاکنون ۱۹ نفر بر اثر وقوع زمین لرزه، جان باخته و ۵۵۳ نفر نیز زخمی شده اند، همچنین جستجو برای پیدا کردن ۳۰ نفری که مفقود شده اند، ادامه دارد.

این زمین لرزه در ساعت ۲۰ و ۴۵ دقیقه روز جمعه به وقت محلی در استان اِلازیغ در شرق ترکیه روی داد. مقامات ترکیه از جان باختن ۱۴ نفر در این زلزله خبر دادند.

در پی این زمین لرزه که بیشتر در چهار استان الازیغ، مالاتیا، غازی آنتپ و شانلی اورفا احساس شد ۳۸ پس لرزه (تا لحظه ارسال خبر) با قدرت‌های بین ۲.۵ تا ۵.۶ درجه ریشتر نیز روی داد.

مرکز لرزه نگاری ترکیه، کانون اصلی این زمین لرزه را شهرستان سیوریجه از توابع استان الازیغ و عمق آن را ۶.۷ کیلومتری سطح زمین اعلام کردند. با توجه به اینکه عملیات آواربرداری ساختمان‌های تخریب شده همچنان ادامه دارد نگرانی از افزایش تعداد جان باختگان وجود دارد.

گزارش خبرنگار خبرگزاری صداوسیما از دمشق نیز حاکیست: سازمان زلزله نگاری سوریه در بیانیه‌ای اعلام کرد زلزله‌ای به بزرگی ۶.۸ ریشتر و در عمق ۱۰ کیلومتری زمین، در منطقه غازی انتاب در مرز‌های مشترک سوریه با ترکیه رخ داد که بیشتر مردم در سوریه و لبنان، آن را احساس کردند.
خبرنگار صدا و سیما از بیروت نیز اعلام کرد: زمین لرزه ۶.۸ ریشتری استان الازیغ ترکیه، در برخی کشور‌های همجوار نیز حس شد. این زلزله به قدری شدید بود که بیروت و حومه آن را نیز لرزاند.
گزارش خبرنگاران خبرگزاری صداوسیما حاکیست، زمین لرزه ۶.۸ ریشتری ترکیه، افزون بر لبنان، برخی مناطق سوریه، عراق و ارمنستان را نیز لرزانده است.
